Role-based multi-agent orchestration framework for building collaborative autonomous agent crews.
Organizes agents into role-playing "crews" that delegate and collaborate on tasks, with a separate Flows API for more deterministic, event-driven control. The core Python framework is MIT-licensed and now runs standalone without a LangChain dependency. The vendor also offers CrewAI AMP, a managed enterprise platform, alongside a self-hostable Factory deployment option.
Strengths
- Intuitive role/task abstraction for multi-agent teams
- Standalone framework with no heavy framework dependency
- Large community and many published examples
- Managed enterprise platform for deployment and monitoring
Tradeoffs
- Higher-level abstractions offer less fine-grained control than graph frameworks
- Debugging emergent multi-agent behavior can be hard
- Some advanced features are oriented toward the paid platform
