PayPal's open-source toolkit and MCP server for integrating PayPal commerce APIs into AI agent workflows.
Provides pre-built functions covering PayPal orders and payments, invoices, subscriptions, disputes, shipment tracking, catalog management, and transaction reporting. Supports Amazon Bedrock, CrewAI, LangChain, Model Context Protocol (MCP), the OpenAI Agents SDK, and the Vercel AI SDK, in TypeScript (Node 18+) and Python. The toolkit is Apache-2.0 licensed and includes a sandbox flag so agents can be tested without real transactions; PayPal also operates a remote MCP server exposing the toolkit's tools.
Strengths
- Wide PayPal API surface including invoices, subscriptions, disputes, refunds, and shipment tracking
- Six supported agent frameworks including Amazon Bedrock and MCP
- Apache-2.0 licensed with both TypeScript and Python SDKs
- Built-in sandbox mode for safe testing before live transactions
Tradeoffs
- Requires a PayPal business account, with PayPal transaction fees applying
- Slower tagged-release cadence than peers: latest GitHub release (1.8.0) dates to September 2025
